RoofServ Charleston Becomes a Corporate Sponsor of the USS Yorktown Foundation
We recently became a corporate sponsor of the USS Yorktown Foundation, the 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports Patriots Point Naval & Maritime Museum right here in Charleston Harbor. It’s a partnership that means a lot to us — not just as a local business, but for reasons that are personal to our team.
About the USS Yorktown & Patriots Point
The USS Yorktown (CV-10) is a World War II-era aircraft carrier commissioned in 1943. It served in major Pacific Theater operations during WWII, later deployed during the Vietnam War, and even recovered the Apollo 8 astronauts after splashdown.
Today it’s permanently docked at Patriots Point, where it serves as a floating museum — with preserved aircraft, exhibits, and educational programs that bring that history to life for visitors of all ages.
The Yorktown Foundation funds the preservation work, educational programming, and community outreach that keeps the museum running and accessible.
The Event: Sunset Salute

Our sponsorship kicked off at the Foundation’s “Sunset Salute” — an after-hours event held aboard the ship for corporate sponsors and supporters.
Guests had access to parts of the ship that are closed during normal operating hours, including time on the flight deck as the sun went down over Charleston Harbor. It was a genuinely memorable evening — good people, a great setting, and a lot of history around every corner.
For our team, it was a chance to connect with other local business owners and community leaders in a setting that felt a little different from a typical networking event.
A Personal Connection
What made the night especially meaningful was a connection our own team didn’t fully expect going in.
RoofServ President Pierce Lee served as an Aviation Maintenance Officer in the United States Marine Corps, deploying to the Middle East in support of Operation Inherent Resolve with VMA-223 — the “Bulldogs,” a Marine attack squadron with a long history of its own.

One of the aircrafts from that unit is now on display on the Yorktown’s flight deck.
Standing next to a plane from a deployment you were part of — now preserved on a WWII carrier — is a hard thing to put into words. It’s the kind of moment that reminds you why this kind of preservation work matters.
Why This Partnership Makes Sense for Us
We’re not sponsors of the Yorktown Foundation because it looks good on paper. We’re involved because the mission genuinely lines up with who we are — a company with real military roots, operating in a city with deep ties to American history and the armed forces.
- Supporting organizations that educate and preserve history
- Showing up for the veteran and military community in a meaningful way
- Building relationships in Charleston that go beyond business
Looking Ahead
As we continue to grow in Charleston, this is the kind of community involvement we want to be known for — not just a company that does good roofing work, but one that’s genuinely invested in the city and the people in it.
